four New quests for a new session!

Quests are real-world projects to master 21st-century skills.

Usually lasting four- to six-weeks, each Quest includes a series of challenges bound by a compelling narrative and is designed to deliver 21st century skills while simultaneously incorporating traditional topics like science, social studies, and history.

Puppetry Arts Quest

Reading and storytelling with children promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships. Sometimes you can read and sometimes you can look at picture books, sing songs or tell stories from your culture. This Session we will dive into storytelling through puppetry. We will break into groups and put our imaginations together to create fun and exciting stories. At Exhibition we will showcase four puppet shows.

We wonder who will create the funniest, most dramatic, clever and/or suspenseful stories? Who knows you may even be asked to join in the fun.

Rogue Plants Quest

How might we encourage heroes to interact with nature through the scientific method as well as to inspire local leaders to take action against invasive species in our community?

There is a monster invasive plant taking over the country. The plant was created using real adaptations from invasive plants. For this Quest, heroes are introduced to a narrative story with “Rogue Dogs” (i.e., invasive species sniffing dogs) acting as characters to guide learners through STEM focused materials and activities in a way that encourages them to explore invasive plant species. At the end, learners see exactly what effects invasive plants have in our community. The exhibition will be an Exhibition PSA presentation to the local city council or Trilith Neighborhood Grounds Team about the importance of mitigating invasive species.

Biomimicry Quest

How can nature influence the way we as humans design and engineer spaces and products?

Welcome to the Biomimicry Quest, where learners will study biology and environmental science with the end goal of learning from nature principles of sustainable design. Four weeks from now, teams will make pitches to the builders and designers of the new Forest School location as to how the design of the school buildings can be influenced by natural forms and processes.

Innovation Works Quest

The “Innovation Works Quest” is based on examining multiple mediums of art including sculpting, media, dance, poetry and more.

Anything can be an art, it just depends what are you looking for, and what you want to make out of that art. Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. Pablo Picasso once said “Everything you can imagine is real.” Are artists discovered or created? What is art? Is art valuable? In this Quest will address these and other questions. They will find and study art through deliberate practices and through careful studying of artistic heroes and their works.

The charge to learners?

Study the foundations and techniques of your mediums, make an educated decision about a specialty or niche to study further, and make a deliberate practice of their craft as they work towards a public showcase and gallery art sale of your works.
