Session 5 Week in Review - Week 20

Zoom Gatherings

Some highlights from Zoom Gatherings this week included:

  • Tuesday: Tuesday, Ayub led another round of Mafia for the Studio as a Community-Builder. It’s fun watching the learners use logic to “eliminate” players they think are guilty.

  • Wednesday: Wednesday’s Skill-Builder kicked off a new series called The Art of Exhibition! The first installment was all about content. We reviewed the types of content that are appropriate for presenting at an Exhibition, and then brainstormed some creative, out-of-the-box content learners can begin to prepare for the Session 5 Exhibition.

  • Thursday: Thursday’s Young Changemaker’s launch featured Amanda Gorman, who was the first National Youth Poet Laureate. Her poetry performances prompted deep discussions about the power of language, and that how we speak on our own and others’ behalf matters.

Week 20 Highlights

This week was all about consistency, community, and showing up for one another, especially after the rhythm change of winter break:

  • Showing Up Matters: A big shoutout to all the learners who are doing what they need to do to make it to their check-ins. Coming back from winter break is never easy, and we truly appreciate learners staying on top of the commitments they signed up for. That kind of follow-through builds momentum fast.

  • Welcome Back: We’re excited to warmly welcome Sam back to FSO! Sam spent time with us in Middle School, and we’re thrilled to have him rejoin the community as a High School learner.

  • Feedback Culture Growing: More learners are jumping into the feedback channel, offering thoughtful input and encouragement. This is a powerful way to support each other in working toward excellence, and it’s wonderful to see this culture taking root across the studio.

Weeks like this remind us that self-directed learning isn’t just about big milestones, it’s about showing up, supporting others, and building strong habits together. Well done, FSO!
