In traditional schools, “English Language Arts” is commonly used to describe the development of learners’ skills and knowledge with the written and spoken word. However, at Forest we emphasize “storytelling” so that, from the earliest ages, learners see how, when, and where their written and spoken word skills can be used for good in the real world. Whether its film, TV, OpEds, podcasting, theater, marketing, dance, and more, through “storytelling challenges” Forest School learners get practice seeing world class examples of stories across genres and making, revising, and publicly sharing their own stories.

The “storytelling calendar” for learners at Forest this 2021-2022 school year is as follows (by session #):

Elementary (grades 2-5):
