Fall is definitely in the air as our final week of session 3 is fast approaching! Exhibition plans are coming together and our learners are excited to share the knowledge they’ve gained over the past 5 weeks.

Can you believe there is only one week left of Session 3? We are working diligently to learn about the many traditions from around the world. We have decided to focus on Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Children’s Day (our friends from Japan shared this tradition with us), and Chinese New Year. Each group will dress and play the part. It is, for sure, going to be a fun experience. More details to come!

It finally looks and feels like Fall, and our heroes are thrilled about upcoming holidays. Inside the Studios, Quest has taken an important turn as we learned that compromise isn’t always possible. Our heroes learned that walking away is sometimes the natural end to a negotiation when two parties cannot agree. What an important lesson for our heroes to understand!
Memoirs are being finalized and last edits are being made as our heroes polish their writing. Our heroes’ lives are quite thrilling! Putting those stories into writing has been both entertaining and educational for our heroes as they find their voice and learn some of the inner workings of the English language. Ancient Greece was the main topic of discussion for Civilization this week as our heroes created maps and researched Greek gods and goddesses. We discussed why ancient civilizations had a god for several aspects of daily life, and our heroes were very curious and intrigued by the mythology and tall tales.
As we near the end of this session, we are so proud of our heroes’ accomplishments so far. We’re excited to showcase our newfound knowledge at our upcoming Exhibition!

A key part of learning is receiving timely, targeted feedback on your work.
This session, Middle School learners have had weekly practice at essay writing. Each essay has featured a different prompt. Learners were given exemplars and "how-to" resources for each essay, and each essay featured a self-critique, peer-critique, and expert feedback (with time for reflection and revision after each feedback session).
The goal is simple—to grow as a writer by writing a lot and receiving numerous avenues of feedback on your work. You can view your learner's essays and the expert feedback they received on Journey Tracker.
Session 3 wraps up next week! Just a reminder that our Exhibition will be Tuesday afternoon by the lake in Trilith and there will be no school next Friday.

This week as conferences come to an end learners are left with the question, “How do I better manage my time and schedule”? With next session's Apprenticeship Quest knocking at the door and the Deep Book deadline of December 9th, learners are learning to gauge what’s most important to finish first rather than later. A major focal point this week were those very two things.
Storytelling this session is coming to an end as they prepare for their final debates next week, trying to persuade their counterpart based solely on their research and evidence. Civilization is one of our favorite days of the week. Learners truly come alive when talking about topics they chose and things of interest. The topic learners explored questions of religion and God. Learners had the opportunity to share where their beliefs come from and what religion means to them, and hear differing perspectives. The maturity in the Studio during these discussions is astounding!
Only 13 school days left until the first two Deep Books are due, 15 days until Thanksgiving, 44 days until Christmas, and 50 days until a New Year. Session 3 and Year 2021 are almost in the record books! Get excited for this Tuesday's Exhibition! You will be able to see the skills your learner has gained through the varying challenges this session.
