Design Thinking

Learners will explore entrepreneurship through engaging in the Design Thinking Process. Learners will examine everyday problems that people in their community face and go through the design thinking process: they will empathize, define, ideate, and ultimately come up with a unique prototype to solve the problem, thereby demonstrating entrepreneurial thinking and spirit. Learners will display and present their prototypes at the Quest Exhibition.

Songcraft

In Songcraft with Clay Cook, learners will use the art of storytelling through music, as well as strengthening in teamwork. Production teams will use lyrics for a chorus written by Clay and develop their own lyrics for a verse that expands upon the story in the chorus. Each team will also craft a unique rhythm or melody for their lyrics and record and produce their finished song. We will celebrate the learner's creativity and musicality at a live listening party in the final week!

Geography

“Hey Siri, take me home”. Do you know how Siri navigates your home? During civilization, we will engage in the exploration of geography. Learners will develop research skills, and communicate their results through creativity. Challenges will guide learners to seek a deep understanding of the following geographical concepts: landforms, climate, and features of a globe and map.

Don’t Tread on Me!

Ain’t no party like the Boston Tea Party! This session, learners will traverse the 1700s in Colonial America, examining the Boston Tea Party and other events leading up to America’s fight for independence in the American Revolution. Placing themselves in the shoes of those living in the 13 Colonies, learners will take on the perspectives of both Loyalists and Patriots, experiencing the ramifications of taking either stance. Using animated maps, primary resources, interactive historical experiences, virtual museum visits, and a self-directed artifact project, they will develop a deep understanding of what it takes for a people to battle for their right to independence and self governance.
