Session 6 Week in Review - Week 27
Zoom Gatherings
Some highlights from Zoom Gatherings this week included:
Monday: Monday, two learners presented Socratic launches for the Studio! Louis presented a launch that dealt with a scenario where an oil tycoon had to choose between drilling more oil for profit and displacing residents of an apartment complex. Jovanni then led a launch that had learners discussing if we respect money, fame, or status more. Both launches prompted thoughtfulness and lively discussion!
Tuesday: Tuesday, Aziza facilitated a learner-led launch called Got Ethics?, where she presented a series of scenarios that had learners deciding if saving 1 life was better than 5 lives or vice versa. It prompted a great conversation on ethics and moral dilemmas, and even inspired some new Quest curriculum (coming soon!).
Wednesday: Wednesday’s Skill-Builder was Part 4 of the new series on Research & Citations. This week we talked about how to incorporate facts and notes from research into work to actually be used. Learners worked in teams to test out the R.I.C.E. method for incorporating paraphrased or quoted information along with a citation in their writing.
Thursday:Thursday’s Young Change Maker launch featuredCraig Kielburger, who was deeply impacted by child labor issues, and as a twelve year old decided to take action. He eventually wrote a book called Free the Children, and founded an organization dealing with poverty, hunger, and education. Learners discussed what our personal responsibility is when we become aware of an injustice.
Week 27 Highlights
This week was full of leadership, momentum, and major milestones as learners continue to rise to the challenge!
Learner-Led Launch Leaders: Huge congratulations to Louis, Jovanni, and Aziza for delivering engaging, fun, and thought-provoking learner-led launches! 🎉 Extra kudos to Jovanni and Aziza for completing all of their launches for the year—what an accomplishment and a testament to their consistency and leadership.
Major Year-End Milestone: A big congratulations to Amara for completing Math, Science, Civ, Quest, and another elective for the year! This level of follow-through, discipline, and excellence is incredible to see.
Excellence in Action: Learners are continuing to rise to the high expectations set for them. With Ms. Dayna maintaining a 5-day turnaround time on work submissions, learners are stepping up and meeting that standard with increased quality and consistency.
FSO Beyond the Studio: Ms. Eliza represented FSO at the Georgia Department of Education Convention hosted at The Forest School, leading two sessions on the Architecture of Learner-Directed Online Schooling Models. We’re proud to see FSO’s work being shared and recognized on a broader stage!
Re-Enrollment Reminder: Enrollment for next year is opening soon! If you haven’t yet completed your re-enrollment paperwork, now is the time to secure your learner’s spot in the experience of your choice.
The momentum, leadership, and excellence we’re seeing right now are setting the tone for a powerful finish to the year. Keep it up, FSO!
