Week in Review - Week 2
Reminders
As we finish Week 2, and prepare to begin Week 3, here are a few reminders::
Learners, please be sure all evidence you are submitting is being submitted in the module for that specific badge, not your Badge Plan. Thanks!
Parents, we would love to get your feedback on the first two weeks of school. Please share your thoughts in this Google Form.
For U.S. based learners who want to join Chrissy’s Zoom Gathering on Mondays, please remember that due to time zones, they will join Sunday night at 11pm Eastern.
Zoom Gatherings
This week we spent two days discussing what makes a space feel safe, and learners feel seen, heard, respected, and valued. We took time to brainstorm ideas then headed into breakout rooms to craft the first draft of What We Will Become, a set of promises all learners agree to keep for themselves and others.
Some learners were shy and slow to get started but we are confident that they will continue to grow in their bravery to voice their opinion, as well as their ability to create amazing things together.
We also had a good time doing our first Skill Builder this week. In line with this year’s theme of growing up in a changing world, learners were tasked with taking on the role of journalist or news reporter, and writing an article to be published in a newspaper in the year 2065. The article needed to focus on changes and advancements that would have happened in the past 40 years and be written in a hopeful tone. Learners came up with some truly inventive and engaging articles!
Some highlights from Zoom Gatherings this week included:
Some hilarious Two Truths & A Lie responses!
A great first draft of promises that will become our Studio Contract in the coming weeks.
Highly creative news articles on the advancements in 2065! Special shoutouts to these learners for standout articles:
Zhang Guhuai, Jude, and Taina in high school
Alivia and Tanisha in middle school
Week 2 Highlights
Badge Plan Orientations: Badge Plan Orientations are almost finished, with a few more learners scheduled for next week. Learners are actively building out their Badge Plans in Headrush with the decisions they made during their Orientation.
Headrush Success: Positive feedback has continued to roll in from parents and learners, and we are so pleased that it has been a value add for our community so far! There have been a few small glitches, where things haven’t been saved, but our team is working closely with Headrush in real-time to correct any issues.
Community on Slack: Slack continues to be very active, which is amazing! We love seeing learners posting their projects from their independent Quests and Story Arts and asking for feedback, or a learner who missed a Zoom Gathering reaching out to join a team to work on a collaborative challenge.
Clubs on the Rise: Club pitches are due today! Learners who plan to pitch a club should complete their Headrush module pitch, and submit it by the end of day. Our team will review pitches next week and give final approval.
Engaged Launches: We’ve continued to see a great deal of cameras on during our Zoom Gatherings, and engagement using both mics and the chat. We hope to bring some of our quieter learners into the conversation next week by using breakout rooms and liberating structures to ensure everyone’s voice is heard.
Guided Projects Begin: Learners are well on their way towards completing their first Quests, Story Arts, and Civilization modules. We thank you for your patience as we begin approving work - it will get smoother and faster over the next few weeks!
Keep up the great work! 👏🏼
