Zoom Gatherings
Some highlights from Zoom Gatherings this week included:
Monday: Monday’s Community Builder included a bit of friendly competition playing a trivia game on Blooket. Congrats to our winners: 🥇Yagna, 🥈David, and 🥉Kinley!
Tuesday: Tuesday’s Human Skills Launch was all about how to make connections in an online environment, and how to nurture those connections and develop them into friendships. We looked at and discussed connection builders and connection killers that can help or hurt friendships in online spaces!
Wednesday: Wednesday’s Skill-Builder focused on how to make Exhibition presentations immersive and engaging for guests. We reflected on experiences that left an impression on each of us, and what aspects of that experience we can build into our own presentations to ensure guests remember them for a long time to come.
Thursday: Thursday’s “Young” Changemaker launch had us thinking about what to do when someone we care about doesn’t have a “next step”. Do we jump in help, do we wait for them to help themselves, or do we wait for society to do something about it? Young Changemaker, Josh Fields, took it upon himself to create a next step solution for his best friend. Meghan, who has Down Syndrome, was aging out of high school with nowhere to go, so Josh created a program for Meghan and others like her to have a next step to transition into adult life.
Week 3 Highlights
Congratulations to Jovanni and Nadia for being the first learners to sign up to lead Learner-Led Launches this year! We love seeing learners step into leadership and create opportunities for others to learn alongside them.
Shout-out to Ashton for already taking full advantage of one of the best parts of FSO—turning the things you're already passionate about into meaningful school credit. That's exactly what personalized learning looks like!
Finally, thank you to every parent and learner who came prepared for Badge Plan Orientations. Collectively, this group has started earlier and stronger with their badge planning than any previous FSO cohort. The thoughtful ideas, preparation, and excitement we've seen have been incredible. Kudos to all of you!
Our Question of the Year: What is a Good Life?
Every badge, apprenticeship, project, book, and challenge is another opportunity for learners to explore this question for themselves. Rather than following someone else's definition of success, we're encouraging learners to intentionally build lives filled with purpose, contribution, growth, and joy.
